Heart Of Lapland
Instead of striving singly, a number of operators in Norrbotten have realised that united they can achieve more. Under the name Heart of Lapland - part of Swedish Lapland - Haparanda, Kalix, Överkalix, Övertorneå and Pajala have chosen joint marketing to increase the attractiveness and competitiveness of eastern Norrbotten as a tourist destination. The project saw the light of day when Visit Sweden allocated funding to the region, which gave one person from each tourist facility an opportunity to study product development and marketing under the auspices of the Swedish Trade Council.
The members are approximately 40 tourist operators in the region and the vision is that by the year 2010, Heart of Lapland will be the most attractive tourist destination for guests in search of above all adventure. The reason for choosing the name Heart of Lapland, when in fact the area is in Norrbotten, is that the region lies between Swedish and Finnish Lapland, and that this is a selling factor, above all in an international perspective. Many French, British and German guests are today drawn to Finland, both individual travellers and companies. They have also begun to discover Sweden, but still not to the same extent as the neighbouring country.

Swedish Lapland
Forest Hotel is marketed in and outside Sweden together with Heart of Lapland, as well as through Swedish Lapland. Swedish Lapland, or Norrbotten/Lappland Ekonomisk Förening, was set up on 1 October 2001 and replaced the former county tourist organisation Norrbottens Turistråd. Norrbotten/Lappland/Swedish Lapland is an economic association whose aim is to market and develop the visitor industry in the county, thereby to increase the number of Swedish and overseas visitors to the county.
Swedish Lapland targets tourism companies and organisations, as well as municipalities, public bodies and the rest of the businesses that in their operations will benefit from increased numbers of visitors to the county. Through collaboration, coordination of resources and directed initiatives, they promote development and create growth in the county.
